Job Description
Trades Worker I (General Maintenance), Permanent Full-Time
DHT Plant Maintenance, Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Centre, Botwood
Definition of Work:
The Trades Worker I is responsible for maintenance, repair and troubleshooting work near the journeyperson level in the building, mechanical, plumbing and electrical trades to ensure efficient operation. The successful candidate performs plumbing repairs and maintenance on boilers, pumps, and compressors; installs and repairs faucets, toilets and other plumbing fixtures; installs and/or repairs offices, doors, windows, glass, locks, and office furniture such as desks, bookcases, shelving, etc; performs minor electrical work such as replacing light bulbs, tubes, ballasts, switches and light fixtures; assists electricians in more advanced electrical repairs and maintenance such as pulling wire; maintains building in good condition through preventative maintenance work such as painting, plastering; performs masonry related duties such as repairs/replaces or installs brick, concrete blocks, paving stones, ceramic floors and wall tiles; participates in the repair and troubleshooting of boiler systems; operates power tools including table saws, electric drills, voltage meter, etc; completes work orders, filling building supply orders and delivering goods to applicable buildings; ensures that all life safety systems such as fire alarms, extinguishers, emergency lighting, etc, are in working order; responds when alarms are activated; removes fire hazards and reports safety hazards; performs annual maintenance checks on various pieces of equipment and/or building structure; may provide advice and guidance to new and existing employees; and, other duties related to general maintenance and assisting other building trades may be required. Travel within the region to perform maintenance related duties may be required.
The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.
Physical Demands:
By applying for this job, you acknowledge an understanding that regular requirements and demands of this job include (but are not limited to):
* Regularly lifts/moves object up to 25 lbs. Occasionally lifts/moves >50lbs. Push/Pulling forces up to 50lbsF are required.
* Work repetitively involves reaching/stretching, bending and twisting; regular standing, walking, climbing, and being in awkward or cramped positions.
* Use of gross and fine motor skills; constant use of hand tools that require accurate control and steadiness and maintaining physical balance (e.g. ladders/scaffolding).
* Work Environments present potential for exposure to scented/chemical products and/or other allergens within publicly accessible areas.
* Work environments can present exposure to loud noises or environmental hazards; potential for exposure to blood, bodily fluids and/or other contagion. Personal protective equipment is required for specific areas.
* Maintaining a clean-shaven face can be mandated to ensure proper seal of personal protective equipment.
Required qualifications:
* Graduation from high school with a diploma recognized by the Newfoundland and Labrador's Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
* Graduation from a one-year post-secondary course in a building, electrical, plumbing or mechanical trade approved by Central Health.
* Minimum one years' experience within the last 5 years in a building, electrical, plumbing or mechanical trades.
* Experience in infection control measures.
* A valid Class V driver's license issued by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.
* Demonstrated ability to lift or move objects over 50 lbs.
* Demonstrated knowledge of:
- Building, electrical, plumbing, and/or mechanical trades.
- Computers.
- Safe work procedures.
- Life Safety Systems.
- Workplace Hazardous Material Information System.
- Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.
* Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills.
* Consistent demonstration of Central Health's corporate values; Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Stewardship and Quality
* A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
* A satisfactory Certificate of Conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.
Preferred qualifications:
* Experience working in a health care environment.
Hours of Work:
75 hours bi-weekly (Shift work may be required)

CG-24 ($22.41-$24.69)
