Nurse Practitioner, Temporary Full Time (Approximately 18 Months)
Family Practice, Bay D'Espoir Medical Clinic


The Nurse Practitioner is responsible to provide comprehensive assessment and care to clients. The successful applicant works independently in diagnosing conditions, prescribing medications, performing or ordering diagnostic tests and treatments, evaluating treatments and providing follow-up care in liaison with the interdisciplinary team. The Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive and holistic nursing care to clients including health promotion, injury and illness treatment and prevention, supportive, including palliation, curative and rehabilitative care in a primary care practice setting.

The NP will work in partnership with multidisciplinary teams in acute care and community settings, to develop, lead, implement and evaluate best practice, policies, and standards of care and clinical services. The NP will assume a leadership role in influencing clinical practice and health outcomes, while collaborating with physicians, the broader healthcare team and community partners regarding complex and challenging client care. The NP will establish a preventative, integrated, person and family centered approach driven by individualized assessment of needs and individual choice to promote aging in place.

As an advanced practitioner, the Nurse Practitioner functions in the roles of practitioner, educator and leader. As governed by provincial regulations, he/she practices independently, collaborating with the primary care physicians in the area for issues outside the Nurse Practitioner scope of practice. This position will require the utilization of virtual technologies in supporting the clientele in the area. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.

Required qualifications:
* Graduation from a Nurse Practitioner program approved by Central Health.
* Current registration with ARNNL as a Nurse Practitioner (Family All Ages or Primary Health Care) or eligibility to register as a Nurse Practitioner.
* Current BLS certification.
* Demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities and problem-solving skills, as well as, oral and written communication skills.
* Demonstrated ability to work well independently and with others in an interdisciplinary team environment.
* Demonstrated knowledge of home and community health services.
* Demonstrated initiative.
* Consistent demonstration of Central Health's corporate values; Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Stewardship and Quality.
* Willing to work a flexible work schedule.
* A valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class V Driver's License.
* A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
* A satisfactory certificate of conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.

Preferred qualifications:
* One (1) year experience within the last three (3) years as a nurse practitioner in long term care, personal care, acute care and/or community health.
* Demonstrated skill in using health care-based computer systems (CRMS, Meditech).

Hours of work: 75 hours bi-weekly (Shift work may be required)
Salary: NS -35 ($43.57-$54.02)
